Smart Agriculture with NeoMesh

Wireless connectivity is transforming agriculture — enabling real-time insights, smarter resource use, and higher productivity. Often referred to as precision agriculture or smart farming, these solutions allow farmers to monitor, automate, and optimize field operations like never before.

Why Wireless in Agriculture?

Wireless sensors and control systems bring key advantages to farms of all sizes:

Real-Time Monitoring

Track soil moisture, temperature, humidity, crop health, and more — across multiple zones — to make fast, informed decisions.

Data-Driven Farming

Turn raw sensor data into actionable insights for irrigation, fertilization, and pest control — improving yield and sustainability.

Operational Efficiency

Remotely control irrigation pumps, dosing systems, and other infrastructure — saving labor and reducing travel time.

Resource Optimization

Apply water, fertilizers, and pesticides exactly where and when needed — reducing waste and environmental impact.

Early Detection of Problems

Spot signs of disease, pests, or infrastructure failures early — enabling fast intervention and preventing losses.

Improved Crop Quality

Maintain more stable and optimal growing conditions for better yield uniformity and product consistency.

Remote Access

Monitor and control operations from anywhere — ideal for managing multiple sites or remote installations.

Scalability & Adaptability

Easily expand and reconfigure the system as farm operations grow or change.

Environmental Sustainability

Smart farming supports more sustainable practices by minimizing chemical usage and conserving natural resources.

Common Issues – and How NeoMesh Overcomes Them

Despite the benefits, smart farming systems can be expensive and complex to deploy. Many solutions rely on LoRaWAN or NB-IoT/LTE-M, which require:

Monthly subscriptions per device

Coverage from cell towers or private gateways

Planning for network infrastructure, power supplies, and repeaters

With NeoMesh, these issues disappear

The NeoMesh Advantage in Agriculture

NeoMesh creates a self-forming, infrastructure-free mesh network, ideal for large-scale or distributed agricultural environments:

No Repeaters or Gateways Needed in the Field

Devices connect directly to one another, automatically routing data through the mesh.

Only One Gateway Required

Just place a NeoMesh gateway anywhere with Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or cellular connectivity — no need for towers or base stations.

No Subscription Fees

Once deployed, the network is free to run — with no ongoing connectivity costs.

Long Range

NeoCortec offers modules with extended range and LoRa modulation, enabling device-to-device distances of several kilometers.

Scalable to 65,000 Devices

Add more sensors or control nodes anytime — the network grows automatically, with no reconfiguration needed.

Long Battery Life

Devices are fully battery-operated, typically lasting several years without maintenance.

Network Health Monitoring

If a device fails or disappears, the system detects it — ensuring uptime and data reliability.

NeoMesh is a powerful solution for precision agriculture, giving farmers the freedom to monitor their land and automate activities without the complexity and cost of conventional wireless systems.

Frequently asked questions

Can NeoMesh be used with LoRa modulation
Yes, for long range communication LoRa at either sub-GHz or 2.4 GHz is available. Each device will be communicating with the other devices using LoRa modulation.
What area can I cover?
Whereas the node to node distance can be up to a few kilometers, even larger areas can be covered by ensuring that each node can 'see' a minimum of two other nodes. Farming fields, regardless of size, can be covered simply by adding more nodes.
Can I use energy harvesting such as solar panels?
Yes. Whereas NeoMesh is low power itself - typically 7 years using 2x AA batteries - you can also use solar panels in combination with a rechargeable lithium battery.
How does NeoMesh contribute to sustainable farming?
By optimizing resource usage and reducing waste, NeoMesh helps farmers minimize their environmental impact while increasing productivity. But, even more so, NeoMesh contributes by making it a lot easier and affordable to build and deploy systems.
Do I need mains powered repeaters or gateways?
No, with NeoMesh you do not need routers or repeaters. When using NeoMesh your sensors and actuators are the infrastructure of the network, you do not need to build an infrastructure first. Just switch on the nodes, and your network will appear.... however, a gateway will be required if you want to access your network from the cloud.
Are there modules available for integration into my IoT devices?
Yes, there are available modules both on FSK modulation as well as LoRa modulation. At either sub-GHz or at 2.4 GHz. Your choice.
How can NeoMesh help us in harvesting maple syrup?
By creating a mesh network, NeoMesh can provide remote access and monitoring of vacuum pumps and other equipment - to ensure that harvesting is not interrupted.
