Smart buildings targeted by Embit module, debuting at Electronica

November 12, 2024 – NeoCortec, manufacturer of ultra-low-power bi-directional wireless mesh networking technology, demonstrated the ability to form a NeoMesh wireless network using LoRa modulation at Electronica in Munich. The combination of NeoMesh’s massive scalability and low power consumption with LoRa’s proven robustness in noisy environments significantly enhances the value proposition of the two leading technologies.

Thomas Steen Halkier, CEO of NeoCortec, explains that the various wireless technologies exist because they each address different challenges. By combining leading solutions, designers can now benefit from both true mesh networking and LoRa’s physical-layer strengths, unlocking networking opportunities in smart buildings and related applications.

The NeoMesh software stack is being implemented in a LoRa module manufactured by Embit. Fully compliant with worldwide 2.4 GHz frequency-band regulations, the EMB-LR module is based on Semtech’s SX128 2.4 GHz long-range transceiver paired with an STM32 MCU. Embit says it is delighted to unveil the first commercially available module to feature both LoRa and NeoMesh at Electronica.

In contrast to many other mesh-network technologies, NeoMesh is dynamic and scalable, supporting thousands of nodes. It is easy to install, requiring only one gateway and no repeaters. NeoMesh is also self-healing, automatically rerouting signals if a node fails.

About NeoCortec

NeoCortec was founded in 2007 with the aim of developing and patenting several innovations related to Wireless Sensor Networks. The main product is NeoMesh. NeoMesh is a wireless communication protocol to be embedded in smart devices to enable communication between the devices as well as to the cloud. NeoMesh is built completely from scratch to overcome some of the limitations that e.g. Zigbee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth and Thread have: scalability in number of devices, range and power consumption. At NeoCortec, we aim towards making non-smart and large buildings smarter by using NeoMesh. Easy upgrade without cabling. NeoMesh is available on ultra-low-power bi-directional wireless mesh network communication modules as well as on a license basis on many various chipsets.
