Processing of data may be moved from local edge processing, at the site, to processing in the cloud. To do this, several LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) technologies are available. Examples of these are NB-IoT, LTE-M, GSM as well as LoRaWAN.
The benefits of these LPWAN technologies are many, among them are (i) massive coverage in many areas, (ii) potential for low power allowing for battery operation,
(iii) ability to transmit small data packets at infrequent intervals, (iv) less interference as it works in licensed spectrum, and many more benefits.
The disadvantages however is the subscription cost associated with each device. Furthermore, indoor coverage can still be challenging. And whereas LPWAN devices can be low power, their power consumption is still higher than NeoMesh.
NeoMesh is a local, low power network. Whereas NeoMesh does not need a gateway or coordinator for data to be routed around in the network, it does need a gateway whenever data is to be exchanged with e.g. the cloud. When the gateway is equipped with NeoMesh on one side and LPWAN connectivity on the other then you can reach all sensors in the building, wherever they are, from the cloud using only a single NB-IOT, LTE-M or GSM subscription.
NeoMesh in combination with our NeoGateway software is therefor a great extension of those LPWAN technologies. The benefits of using NeoMesh as an extension of LPWAN technologies, are:
