Configuration settings

Description

Estimated time required: 5 minutes

The following tutorial explains how to change the general/most important configuration settings of the NeoCortec module.

Required hardware

  • 1 NeoCortec Evaluation boards
  • 1 USB cables

Required software

  • NeoCortec Config_App (Supplied on your USB card)

Altering the config settings

  1. Open an instance of the config app, go to the “Configuration Values” tab and connect to the evaluation board you want to change. In order to connect to the board you need to input the correct password. More about this in the User Guide.
The default passwords and access levels are contained in the following table:

Access level Password (ASCII) Password (HEX)
    Highest Lvl10 4c 56 4c 31 30
    Medium Lvl20 4c 56 4c 32 30
    Lowest Lvl30 4c 56 4c 33 30
  2. Once logged in, you have read/write rights according to the access level of the pass-phrase you have used.

  3. A comprehensive guide on all the configuration settings is available in the User Guide.
  4. Once all the to-be-modified settings are configured, hit the "write" button. This will finalize the new configuration.
  5. When all the values in the "State" column are showing "Read", our changes are written into memory, and we can hit the "Logout" button on the bottom part of the window. (We need to hit "Logout" in order for the module to start looking for existing networks.) image alt <50>

The most important configuration fields

  • Node ID - Allows you to change the node ID of the module. Please note that NodeID-s must be unique through out the network.
  • ACM ID - Specifies the master node which can initiate the alternate operation mode for the network
  • Network ID - 128 bit AES encription key for the mesh, needs to be the same for all participating nodes in order to build a functional network.
  • WES key - 128 bit encription key for the wireless encrypted setup. Having the correct key allows a node to join an already existing network, when a WES server is present. (What is the WES? ) More information about this can be found in the User Guide, under Wireless Encrypted Setup.
  • Generic Application - Normal Mode - Lets the user change the settings which belong to the generic application. More information about the generic application options can be found here.
  • Scheduled data rate - This setting determines the general speed of network data transfer, and the time it takes a message to reach the recipient node. The setting also has a significant impact on current consumption.
  • Beacon rate - This setting determines the speed at which the network can adapt to changes in the physical position of nodes. The different options also have a significant impact on network initialization times.
  • TX Output Power (DropDown) - Set radio transmit power.
